Man, this makes me angry. Also, this: “Even if Huck Finn didn’t contain the N-word and demeaning stereotypes, it would remain a tough sell to students accustomed to fast-paced everything. The novel meanders along slower than the Mississippi River.” Um, excuse me? The novel has a scene change approximately every five pages. It’s fucking fast-paced as hell.

This guy saying that he’s taught Huck Finn and thinks it would be extremely hard to make students understand that it’s a SATIRE and that it’s ANTI-RACISM makes me just think he is an awful teacher. Because I, too, have taught Huck Finn, to black and white students. And my students LIKED it and we had long discussions on how everyone who talks about banning the book is an idiot and needs to actually read it all the way through. Kids are not that dumb. Fuck this guy.
