I think between this and Cantwell’s reblog of Jim Henson’s funeral, I think I might take a moment and cry my eyes out.
Okay, I loved this sort of stuff. This “tease” for Fox’s coverage of the World Series between Tampa Bay and Philadelphia tastefully uses images from the Great Depression and World War II; newspaper headlines on such as one seen from after 9/11/01; and quotes from Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy, Jr. The theme: through our triumphs and tragedies, baseball is the constant, the glue that holds America together.
Both Barack Obama and John McCain track the final quote shown on screen: “I think both baseball and the country will endure,” words spoken by JFK. The music used is from James Horner’s masterful score to the motion picture, Glory.
Beautiful.
“Throughout our history, this country has faced times of peril. But standing by our side, as it does tonight, has been baseball.”
Oh, that’s good.
